Children's Healing Initiative for Peace

CHIP is an independent research project being undertaken by Christina and Kaitlyn beginning in August 2005 to assess the psychosocial needs of children traumatized by conflict in order for them to be adequately rehabilitated and reintegrated into their commmunites and become future peacemakers.

One more try ...

Hello again,

Sorry for some of the duplicate posts and pictures, we've been having a rough time with internet, so just bear with us ...
The top picture is of us at CCF reception center - all the kids with us are recently returned child soldiers, the middle picture is of Kaitlyn and I at Victoria's house on my birthday - that was supposed to be a different picture but I just relinquish all control to this computer and it does as it wishes. The final pictures are of some grass huts (obviously) that line the main road leading into Pader Town Council. As we get more blog savvy we might even be able to load a handful of different pictures ... don't hold your breath tho!
Thanks for your patience,
christina and kaitlyn

Hello you amazing girls! Yes, the pics came through. You both look healthy, happy and beautiful! I have been reading about the riots in Kampala. There have been very short references to the situation in the Wash. Post - World section. Keep the pictures coming.

Love, love, love!

Girls -- I scrutinized the pictures for evidence of malnutrition, malaise, etc., but all evidence to the contrary! I just want to reach out into the photos, give you both a hug, and offer some comfort to those beautiful children! PLEASE stay safe. Listen to your intincts and common sense. You two are "precious cargo" and we expect you to come HOME! I'm counting on it, Love, Mom

Christina,
Glad youre alive and well, and sorry I've been unable to write. I have a new job working as a hero in the post-Katrina/Rita regions. It keeps me really busy. This is the first really rewarding job I've ever had. Some of these folks, if not most, are worth little more than lint. And for scale, lint is worth roughly nothing.

Anywhoo, take care, be safe, and keep your eyes peeled for Black Rhino horns. They're worth tons of money over here.

Toodles,
Bobby

Hi Travellers,

Your pictures are beautiful, especially the birthday ones and the picture of the huts. Have you been in any of their huts yet? Had a meal in one or even just a cup of tea?

Larissa left 11/17/05 for Asia and was very excited before she left about having to testify in Court on behalf of one of her clients.
Unfortunately, the judge ruled in the step-parent's favor but it sounded like she did a nice job all the same.

My boss and his wife have gotten quite interested in Italy over the the past year or so. This interest has culmunated in house hunting and last week they purchased a house in Tuscany. Yes, just like the movie. Anyway, we've gotten to be good friends and he wants us to be his first guests in his new (read 400 year old)house this summer.

I was hoping to get to Uganda but since this has come up I might have to change my plans and 'do' Uganda another time.

Meanwhile, I hope no news is good news about your (Christina's) scabies. Please let me know how it is and if you were able to get proper treatment. Don't forget, part of successful treatment is plenty of hot bubble baths in clean, double-filtered spring water.

With admiration and pride for all the blessèd work of your hands and hearts.

Love,

Dad H.
